The Devine Premier League, abbreviated as the DPL, is an international professional league for soccer clubs. Contested by 32 clubs divided into two conferences, its season is between March and October. The Devine Premier League will be sponsored by Devine Athletics beginning in the 2010–11 season. From founding in 2009 until 2010, the league was known as the SimSports International Soccer League (SISL).

History[]

In 2008 SimSports International Soccer League (SISL) was founded by Black Sun Sports L.L.C. in Escambia and Lisieux. In the spring of 2008 SISL began play and was won by a Lisieuxvian companies team, Lisieux FC. After a successful first year, SISL came back for a 2nd season, which pitted rivals RV Thistle and White Star in the SISL Cup. White Star won to become the 2nd team to win the cup. After the AIFF World Cup, Devine Athletics of Escambia contacted Black Sun Sports L.L.C. and AIFF to buy out SISL. Devine Athletics was successful in doing so for 21 million dollars. DA changed the name to the Devine Premier League which is contracted to be the name till 2020.

Origins[]

Devine Premier League began as an idea between Black Sun Sports L.L.C. from Escambia and a Lisieuxvian sports company in 2008 to create the first international club sporting league. This eventually sprung the famous Alliance of Football Federations created by Lisieux.

Competition[]

Competition for the Devine Premier League begins around late June to early July and ends near October. The DPL playoffs begin in early November and end in late November to early December. Each team in DPL has their own field for competition. DPL playoffs take place at the higher seed team's home field location. The Devine Premier League championship game is choosen by AIFF every year. Dawson, Duwamish was selected to host in 2010 at the Dawson Bowl. In 2011 Freeport, Escambia will host.

Sponsorship[]

The main sponsor for the Devine Premier League is Escambian based athletic company; Devine Athletics. Devine Athletic's bought naming rights to the SimSports International Soccer League in 2009 from the Alliance of International Football Federations for 21 million U.S. dollars as stated by the company on there website. Apart of the deal to improve sales and Devine Athletics identity was to have all jerseys and equipment made by Devine Athletics. Also apart of the deal to make the more money each time was required to have a sponsorship on the jerseys.

Media coverage[]

Media coverage for the Devine Premier League is provided by AIFFtv, YSN, DSN, ESPN, and COFRtv as of 2010. AIFFtv broadcasts all Devine Premier League games on television at no extra cost to customers, allowing customers to watch any of the AIFF or DPL games. Yi Sports Network or commonly known as YSN provides coverage for Escambian based teams and regional teams from Roanoke, Lisieux and Duwamish. YSN also provided coverage for the first ever AIFF World Cup. DSN is the official sports carrier of Duwamish and commonly known as the one of the best soccer broadcasts in the world. DSN provides coverage of almost every AIFF game and sometimes gets called "AIFFtv2". ESPN, an American based sports network provides coverage of major friendlies near the United States. COFRtv, the official station of COFR, provides coverage of its current 10 member nations on international play.

Criticisms[]

Previous criticisms of the Devine Premier League or previously known as the SimSports International Soccer League was that SISL did not have a contract with any athletic company for jerseys causing problems when two teams played with the same color jerseys. Devine Athletics filled the void by buying out SISL and providing atleast 2 styled jerseys per team, if not more. Recent criticisms towards the DPL have been scheduling and the new playoff/2011 season ball. DPL has looked into changing the season format from 2 games to a more random schedule and no select playing days. As of October 27, 2010 DPL approved the new Devine Kurve for use in the DPL playoffs and the 2011 Devine Premier League season. Critics have said the ball bends or "kurves" more than Adidas's Jabulani which was critized by FIFA during the FIFA World Cup in South Africa. Critics have said it the name implys everything, it's truly a "devine curve"

Match balls[]

The match for the 2010 regular season was the Devine Wadausa. For the Devine Premier League playoffs and the coming 2011 season Devine Athletics has designed a ball similar to the Adidas Ja'bulani. The ball made by Devine Athletics is called the "Devine Kurve." German for curve. Exactly what the ball does, curves. Players and coaches have been worried that this will change the game a lot. The ball is currently in testing by DPL teams before the playoffs, November 7th, 2010. After testing in th Devine Premier League playoffs it resulted in way higher scores. Although is was approved by most, if not all DPL players and hope it returns for the 2011 DPL Season starting in February
